Math & ELA
My name is Christian Duran. There are many things that I enjoy to do. I love to be as physically active as possible but I also like to involve myself in as many academic activities as possible. My favorite subject is math. I absolutely love crunching numbers and putting my mind to the test. There is something about numbers that just makes it addicting for me to be around. If I could do anything when I grow up I would love to do anything that involves math. Math may be my favorite subject but language arts is up there too. In my free time I really love to read. I am currently studding for the SSAT so I have to learns as many words as possible and slowly Language Arts is creeping back into my heart.  Writing is also another thing that I am really starting to enjoy. When I start writing I get sucked in to the text and try to imagine my writing.

Sports
Although I do really love academics I equally like sports. I play both baseball and soccer. One accomplishment that I am proud of is being recruited to go to the US national soccer camp. Soccer has been a part of my life since I was  5 years old. Every time I play soccer is lets me free of all my worries and the times I play soccer I treasure it. l also play baseball and this last summer I went too Cooperstown New York to play in the Little League World Series. I hit one home run and our team made it to the quarter finals. It was a amazing
experience that I will never forget. I hope to play sports through out high school and college. All in all I hope to not only be a academic scholar but also a athlete.

Rocketry
Another hobby that I enjoy to do is rocketry. I am on the rocketry team here at Mendez and this year Team B was fortunate enough to go to Washington DC to compete.  Although I did not go it was a amazing experience leading up to that date. We have 3 qualification launches and unfortunately my team did not do so well. We started of strong on the launch before the qualification getting a 9 but could not keep that score. Rocketry is a club that I hope to join through out high school and college. It is one of my favorite hobbies and I hope to continue it this year.

NEVER GIVE UP!!!
Never give up is my life motto. To never give up is to try and endure what ever is going onto get to the other side. When you give up you do not learn and over time you will never try to challenge yourself. Never giving implies to nearly every thing. It even implies to life. If you think about it, if you endure school and try your hardest through out education you will live a great life(Never Give up). If you drop out of your school and not finish school you will not live a good life(Giving up). This is why never giving up is my life motto.

Dear Mendez,
I thank you so much for all you have done for me over the 3 years that I have been at this amazing school. A big part of my experience here at Mendez was the teachers and the community. All my teachers have been very supportive throughout my career at Mendez and have pushed me to be my best possible self. The communities at Mendez has also been very supportive as well. For example one of my favorite memories at  Mendez would have to be during gate symposium. Wherever you looked there were Mendez 8th grade students came together to help younger students with their project. It was truly an amazing sight to see the Mendez community come together. It was also amazing to see all the relationships you made with teachers and students. Each year you made an amazing bond with your teachers that made it an even more deep learning experience. All of the after school sports and activities also lead to meeting new people and creating brand new friendship.

Sincerely,
Christian Duran
